BOOTS METER ALERT

An alert has been issued for the Boots brand glucose monitoring system (January 2008). It has been found that dropping or knocking the device could cause display failure.

Boots advise users to check the display before each reading is taken. If you have problems, return the meter to your supplier or phone Boots helpline on

Statins Good for You
A report published in 'Nursing in Practice' on 14th January suggests that Statins may reduce the incidents of heart attack, stroke and high blood pressure in diabetics.

 

Sanofi Aventis Product changes

Gliquidone tablets (trade name 'Glurenorm') used to treat type 2 diabetes are being discontinued (January 2008). Contact your GP or Sanofi Aventis customer services on

The weight control drug Rimonabant is sometimes prescribed to patients with type 2 diabetes. From now (January 2008) people with a history of depression, or those who are taking or have taken anti-depressants in the past should not be treated with Rimonabant. Those affected should seek advice from their GP. Further advice is available from Sanofi Aventis on
